Stotras are hymns of praises sung devotionally for/to please a specific form of the god. They can be sung during aartis, pooja, havan and even on its own. Each stotra is extracted from a purana, veda or other ancient religious literature. Many stotras have a story as to why, how and when it was first created and sung. Many stotras have a falshruti (the result of singing the stotra in a specific way), boon from god, however in this kali yuga, almost all stotras and mantras are cursed, meaning that you will not get the result as mentioned in the fal shruti. But I advise you to not be disappointed by it and sing them solely for the purpose of praising the lord. Giving boon or fulfilling your wish is always possible for god, no matter how strong the curse it.
